خدایان قدیم

خدايان قديم فرزندان جنگل(Children of the Forest)، خدايان بی نام سنگ و زمين و درخت هستند، که اين نام توسط پيروان هفت(Seven) به آن ها داده شده. کسانی که مذهبشان در همه جای وستروس(Westeros) به غير از شمال آن جايگزين اين خدايان شده است. خدايان قديم در ميان شمالی ها(Northmen)، مردان مرداب(Crannogmen) و مردمان آزاد(Free Folk) در آنسوی دیوار(Beyonde the Wall) پرستيده می شود. معمولا مردم وستروس با ادیان متفاوت به خدایان جدید و قدیم سوگند می‌خورند.

خدایان قدیم

جنگل خدایان(سریال)

پرستش خدایان قدیم «دینی بر پایه پرستش ارواح است که پیروان آن به وجود جادو اعتقاد داشتند و چندین خدا را قبول دارند» که با هم یک ساختار را تشکیل می‌دهند. آن ها بدون نام و بی شمارند.

مردمان آزاد معتقد هستند که خدایان در هر چیزی هستند، در سنگ ها، رود ها، پرندگان، و چهارپایان، و به همین سبب اجساد خود را در زیر زمین و درخت ها قرار می‌دهند. استادان باور دارند که درختان ویروود به خدایان قدیم تعلق دارند. در حالی که پیروان این دین فکر می‌کنند که خدایان از طریق این درختان می‌توانند ببینند. گفته می‌شود که خدایان قدیم تنها در مکان هایی که چهره های درختان می‌توانند ببینند، قدرت دارند. و بعد از آن که بیشتر درختان در جنوب وستروس نابود شدند، آن ها، در جنوب قدرتی ندارند.

گفته می‌شود که خدایان از طریق صدای باد و خش خش برگ ها با پرستندگان خود صحبت می‌کردند . بر اساس گفته جوجن رید، خوانندگان فرزندان باور داشتند که درختان ویروود خدایان هستند، و زمانی که مردند، آن ها بخشی از خدایان می‌شوند.

پرستندگان خدایان قدیم باور دارند که هیچ کس نمی‌تواند در برابر درخت نیایش دروغ بگوید، چرا که خدایان متوجه می‌شوند که او دروغ گفته است. از راه چشم های درختان ویروود، خدایان مردم را قضاوت می‌کنند. به همین دلیل، بهتر است یک سوگند را مقابل یک درخت ویروود خورد، و می‌توان دستی را در دهان چهره درخت کرد. گفته می‌شود که فرزندان جنگل چهره ها را قرن ها قبل از ورود نخستین انسانها از طریق دریای باریک، در عصر طلوع روی درخت ها جک کردند. بر اساس گفته استاد لوین، چهره ها به دستور سبزبین ها، برای دیدن جنگل ها حکاکی شد. نخستین انسان ها باور دارند که سبزبین ها از راه چشم ها می‌توانستند ببینند.

خدایان قدیم توسط فرزندان جنگل، و کمی پس از بستن پیمان، توسط نخستین انسانها پرستیده می‌شدند . پس از ورود آندال ها، و دینشان، خدایان قدیم تسلط خود را بر جنوب وستروس از دست دادند. تنها چند خاندان (مانند خاندان بلک وود) همچنان آن ها را می‌پرستیدند، در حالی که بیشتر خاندان های اشرافی به مذهب هفت روی آوردند. البته در شمال، همچنان، بیشتر خاندان های اشرافی پیرو خدایان قدیم هستند. در شمال دیوار، مردمان آزاد به پرستش خدایان قدیم ادامه داده اند. اگرچه قبایلی ثبت شده‌اند که خدایان متفاوتی را می‌پرستند(خدایان تاریک زیرزمین فراست فنگز، خدایان برفی و یخیدر خلیج یخ، یا خدایان خرچنگی در استرولد پوینت), که برای آن مذرک قابل اطمینانی وجود ندارد.

آداب و رسوم

اعمالی چون زنای با محارم، برده داری, و خویشاوند کشی توهین به خدایان تلقی می‌شود، البته، در رابطه با خویشاوند کشی، درجه خویشاوندی و نحوه کشتن خویشاوند (برای نمونه در جنگ) قابل توجه است. Worshippers visit godswoods, groves contained within castles throughout the Seven Kingdoms, where a heart tree can be found. These trees, which have faces carved into them, are considered to be sacred. Marriage customs

A marriage ceremony takes place in front of a heart tree.الگو:Ref The bride's father, or the person standing in his place (usually kin or whoever else is closest to living kin), will escort the bride to her future husband and those presiding over the marriage.الگو:Ref Thus far, all the wedding gowns that have thus far been described for a follower of the old gods have been a shade of white – though her wedding ceremony was done following the customs of the Seven, Sansa Stark, a worshipper of both the old gods and the new, wore a gown of ivory samite;الگو:Ref Jeyne Poole, during her wedding ceremony following the customs of the old gods, wore white lambs-wool.الگو:Ref

Marriage ceremonies are rather short and contain no priests. The bride is escorted to her groom, who awaits her in front of the weirwood tree in the godswood, and a ceremonial conversation follows, where the identity of the bride, of the groom, and of the person giving the bride away are established. The bride is asked to accept her husband, and upon her agreement ("I take this man") bride and groom join hands, kneel before the heart tree, and bow their heads in token of submission. When they rise following a moment of silent prayer, the groom removes the maiden’s cloak, and places the bride’s cloak around her shoulders, after which he will carry her to the feast in his arms.الگو:Ref The wedding ceremony is followed by a feast, which in turn is followed by the bedding.الگو:Refالگو:Ref

Marriage vows said at swordpoint are not held to be valid, but even if the marriage occurred under force, a lord might claim the marriage to be legal if e.g. lands are at stake.الگو:Ref

Lords in Westeros once had the right to the first night, the custom of bedding newly-wed women before their husbands. Funeral customs

Specific funeral customs are not known. However, nobles houses appear to bury deceased family members in crypts beneath their castles. گذشته

خدايان قديم در اصل از اولين ثبت تاريخ، توسط فرزندان جنگل پرستيده می شدند، يعنی هزاران سال قبل از از راه رسيدن نخستین انسانها(First Men)از شرق. نخستين انسان ها با فرزندان جنگيدند و هر کجا که درخت نيايش می يافتند، آن را قطع ميی کردند. سر انجام نخستين ها با فرزندان صلح کردند و خدايانشان را پذيرفتند.

پرستش خدايان قديم در سر تا سر وستروس ادامه داشت تا اين کههجوم اندال ها(Andals Invation)واقع شد، کسانی که با خود مذهب هفت را از شرق آوردند. اندال ها به تدريج جنوب وستروس را فتح کردند و با قطع کردن درختان نيايش، مذهب خود را جايگزين خدايان کردند. البته به استثنایخاندان بلک وود(Blackwood) ازسرزمین های رودخانه(Riverlands). خدايان قديم هنوز در شمال و در نزد وحشی های آنسوی ديوار پرستيده می شود.
