خدايان قديم در اصل از اولين ثبت تاريخ، توسط فرزندان جنگل پرستيده می شدند، يعنی هزاران سال قبل از از راه رسيدن [[نخستین انسانها]](First Men)از شرق. نخستين انسان ها با فرزندان جنگيدند و هر کجا که درخت نيايش می يافتند، آن را قطع ميی کردند. سر انجام نخستين ها با فرزندان صلح کردند و خدايانشان را پذيرفتند.


پرستش خدايان قديم در سر تا سر وستروس ادامه داشت تا اين که[[هجوم اندال ها]](Andals Invation)واقع شد، کسانی که با خود مذهب هفت را از شرق آوردند. اندال ها به تدريج جنوب وستروس را فتح کردند و با قطع کردن درختان نيايش، مذهب خود را جايگزين خدايان کردند. البته به استثنای[[خاندان بلک وود]](Blackwood) از[[سرزمین های رودخانه]](Riverlands). خدايان قديم هنوز در شمال و در نزد وحشی های آنسوی ديوار پرستيده می شود.
